Ruth had been convicted for "Stealing 2 Shirts - once for a similar offence 4 Months", transported for 7 years for "Theft by habit & repute", aged 26, born Berwickshire (which could easily be someone misinterpreting Berwick upon Tweed for at a later date), single, two children, one on board; Surgeons report on arrival: "Orderly & useful on Board as a Cook; Description: Scar on bridge of nose Slightly ppitted - Stout made - Scar over right Eyebrow; grey eyes, small, dk brown hair; 59" tall; Protestant, could read; by trade a ho. servant; Shown as mustered at the House of Correction on 13 Dec 1832, 1833 and 1835, as having her ticket of leave in Mar 1836, and appears in an advertisement for certificate of freedom eligibility at Hobart in Jan 1838.3,2,4
