     James Runciman was born on 13 Oct 1810 Dalkeith, MLN, SCT.1 He was baptized on 4 Nov 1810 at Dalkeith, Midlothian; entry reads: "James Runciman labourer and Mary Thomson his spouse had a Son born 18th Octbr bapd 4th Novr by the name of James Witnesses James Turnbull and John Black(?)1"
     James Runciman died on 31 Mar 1845 Cape Town, CPC, SAF, at age 34.2 He was buried in Apr 1845 Somerset Rd Cem., Cape Town, CPC, SAF, H/stone James Runciman. Died 31-03-1845. Aged 37 years and 4 months. Assumed to be this James although a year out from baptism date.2,3
