     William Runciman was born circa Apr 1731 Dunbar, ELN, SCT.1 He was baptized on 11 Apr 1731 at Dunbar, East Lothian; Alexander RUNSIMAN & Janet HENDRY his spouse had a son bapt. named William. Wit. Alexander Gray & James Hendrie.3 He married Janet Allan on 23 May 1760 at Dunbar, East Lothian; Wm. RUNCIMAN & Janet ALLAN both of this parish.4,5,6
The William married to Janet Allan is assumed to be the son of Alexander, because of the dates, the witnesses to some of the baptisms, his second daughter being a Janet, and the subsequent discovery of a son Alexander in a neighbouring parish to aid application of the Scottish naming pattern.7

Names/other info

     It is possible that William Runciman witnessed the baptism of Thomas Runciman on 11 Jul 1762 Dunbar, ELN, SCT; Tho. Runciman & Bar. Wallace had Thomas baptised. Wit. Alexr Runciman, Wm. Runciman (assumed to be Thomas' father and brother.)8,9,10
